Natural Ways to Take Care of Yourself
Did you know that people who regularly engage in gratitude live longer and healthier lives? There are several studies that point to this, but we intuitively know it anyway. We already KNOW that living in gratitude (being in a state of gratefulness) is good for our hearts and souls. For many of us, this sounds fine but can be difficult to actually live. Daily life is not generally oriented towards the good. We are in the midst of a 2023 life; with traffic, road rage, noisy neighbors, taxes, price of gasoline, epidemics, politicians and… can I just stop here? Human brains are hardwired to look for the negative so that we can avoid it or the harm it may bring. That’s how we survived and evolved to be the amazing humans we are today. However, living this modern life, we are in a unique position. Many of those negative things are no longer a danger to our lives. Could part of our latest evolution be to wake up to choice? Now, with intention and purpose, we could choose gratitude as a state of being. Can you be in a state of gratefulness AND live a human life at the same time? State of Gratefulness A state of gratefulness is like the base note in a perfume. The base note is the scent that grounds and carries the theme of the perfume. The heart and top notes flit and flow over the base–creating variety and interest, emotions and imagery. If your base note is gratitude, then this holds steady as life events unfold. Gratitude is a state of being, a vibration, a ground through which all else can be experienced. You’ll still have negative events and suffering–that is real life. And when your base note is gratitude, those negative times come and more easily go. Takes practice, but it is possible to be in a state of gratitude in the midst of this human life.
